If you think that you may have noise issues in your workplace, but you are not sure where to begin, a noise risk assessment is the first step towards effectively managing workplace noise hazards.

This is an inexpensive and simple method to assess your compliance with new Noise at Work regulations. It will provide you with recommendations on further steps that you may need to take to ensure full compliance with current legislation.

The assessment may take approximately 2 hours and be carried out by a qualified assessor. The current price is £800. If you have a Health & Safety Officer or Occupational Health Professional who has already performed such a risk assessment you may not need this step.

If the noise risk assessment identifies areas where action is required, we are able to offer additional modules to address specific problems. These can include: -

• Detailed measurements including octave band analysis to identify the type of noise and the most appropriate control measures and/or hearing protection
• On-site screening audiometry for at risk employees
• Noise monitoring dosimetry to measure individual noise exposure over time
• Custom hearing protection-allowing the control of damaging noise whilst retaining audibility for speech and warning signals.
• Advice on other possible control measures and changes to working practices to manage exposure.

Once you have a risk assessment identifying a need for screening audiometry (hearing tests), we can offer a range of solutions tailored to the number of tests required. Please note that in 2007 the permitted noise level exposure for employees decreased and so employees previously outside the scope of screening may now need to be screened.
